Langtang valley trekking, popularly known as “the valley of glaciers trek” located only 19 miles north of Kathmandu and just south of the Tibetan boarder will allow you observe the gigantic snow capped mountains and stunning glaciers. It is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. The entire valley is subjugated by Mount Langtang Lirung (7246m). Along with the magnificent view of the valley of Langtang, Langtang trekking will offer a chance to see the high mountain lakes at Gosainkunda, the beautiful Helambu Valley, the attractive Langtang National park and then trek to the breathtaking ice flutes of Gyangchempo. To the west of Langtang is Ganesh Himal with a range of 6,000 to 7,000 meters.
From Langtang village, we will move to Kyangjin Gompa (3,740 m). From Kyangjin Gompa, you will be passing through the fields of Langsisa (4.084 m) which provides the excellent views of abundant glaciers. Then, following the Trishuli River, we travel through Dhunche to Syabrubensi, a Sherpa village land subsequently swing east into the Langtang valley. We pass through oak and rhododendron forests and even traverse glacial moraine on our way to the Tamang village of Langtang region. The main ethnic groups here are Sherpa and Tamang whose religious practices, languages and dress are much similar to those of Tibet.
The northern parts of the area largely fall within the boundaries of Langtang National Parks. Offering pine forest, beautiful mountain streams, rugged rock and snow-capped peaks, grassy down and meadows to see, Langtang trekking will give an opportunity to walk through the area of Langtang National parks established in 1976 to preserve the unique flora and fauna of the region. One of the endangered animal red pandas is found in this protected area. Also, the park is home for Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, wild dog, ghoral, and more than 250 species of birds. Talking about fauna, sal, different species of rhododendron, Nepalese alder, chirpine, oak forest, silver fir, hemlock, larch, birch and many more floras will be noticeable during the trekking.
A visit to the Langtang Valley offers an opportunity to explore villages, climb small peaks and visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. The forests in this region have temperate and sub- alpine vegetation. Wildlife includes migratory birds, deer, monkeys, Thar, and Pika. The scenery here is spectacular and the trekking is more adventurous.
The main highlights of the Langtang Excursion Trek are Langtang National Park, Kyangjing Gompa, Yak Cheese factory, typical Tamang villages and diversity of flora and fauna.
