This is an outstanding trek in the eastern region of Nepal which offers a combination of rich cultural heritage, unsurpassed beauty and biological diversity. The trail takes you from the steamy lowlands of Tumlingtar on the Arun River, through one of the least frequented areas of Nepal, to the base camp of Makalu [8475m]. The trail follows the beautiful Barun river valley in the Makalu Barun National Park, crossing Shipton pass at 4127 meters before arriving at Makalu Base Camp [5000m]. From here, views of the south face of Makalu, as well as Everest and Lhotse are truly regal and fantastic. The Arun valley is also home to rare species of various Birds which are found only in Nepal.

Anyone in good shape and has previous experience of trekking can make this fairly challenging trek anytime in March to May and September to early December

  • Day 03 – Fly Kathmandu – Tumlingtar [460m] & trek to Khandbari [1040m]
  • Day 04 – Trek to Fururu [1900m]
  • Day 05 – Trek to Num [1490m]
  • Day 06 – Trek to Sedua [1460m]
  • Day 07 – Trek to Tashi gaon [2070m]
  • Day 08 – Trek to Kauma [3470m]
  • Day 09 – Trek to Mumbuk [3570m]
  • Day 10 – Trek to Nhe Kharka [3000m]
  • Day 11 – Trek to Sherson [4615m]
  • Day 12 – Trek to Makalu Base camp [5000m]
  • Day 13 – Rest day – Exploration etc
  • Day 14 – Trek to Nhe Kharka [3000m]
  • Day 15 – Trek to Mumbuk [3570m]
  • Day 16 – Trek to Kauma [3470m]
  • Day 17 – Trek to Tashi Gaon [2070m]
  • Day 18 – Trek to Balung [760m]
  • Day 19 – Trek to Pukuwa [550m]
  • Day 20 – Trek to Bumling [370m]
  • Day 21 – Trek to Tumlingtar [460m]
  • Day 22 – Fly to Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel
  • Day 23 – Depart Kathmandu
